FINE MATTHEW EGERTON EARLY 19TH C. HEPPLEWHITE BUTLER’S CHEST/DESK. Mahogany case with finely executed satin and ebony line inlay. Superbly fitted inlaid desk interior with drop down writing surface and prospect door with bellflower plant inlay. The original label in central compartment reads “Matthew Egerton, Cabinet Maker In Burnet Street. New Brunswick, [N.J.]” Original period stamped eagle and shield brass and pleasing original finish. 43” H X 42” W (case) X 43” W (overall) X 21.75” D. Condition: structurally sound and original. Some cosmetic blemishes including, some light surface scratching throughout, some drawer edges have chipping and small losses to inlay. Both front feet with re-glued original fractured pieces at toe (see images) right rear and front right toes have small replaced splices. Tight shrinkage crack on top.
