Charles Robert Patterson (New York, 1878-1978) oil on canvas, “The American Ship Abner Coburn,” titled on plaque, signed lower right, with Quester Gallery label on reverse, in a gilded wooden Newcomb-Macklin frame. Stretcher: 25” x 30”; Frame outside dimensions: 32.5” x 37.5”; Frame interior dimensions: 25.25 x 30.5”. Condition: lined, some slight craquelure. (The Abner Coburn was built for the NY - Orient Trade and sailed this route from 1882-1900. In 1900 she was sold to CA Shipping Company and for them, she sailed for the next 29 years in the Pacific and Arctic seas. In 1912, she was sold to San Francisco ship brokers and sailed between CA and Alaska working in the salmon trade until about 1925. She was scrapped in Edmonds, WA in 1929)
